The Safari Vest, A Matter of Style and Convenience

safari vest

A safari vest can be quite useful and adds a bit of Style to casual clothes.

Here we are talking about a sort of jacket without sleeves. It's easy to wear. Easy to put on in a hurry and is not as cumbersome as a jacket,

and there are other advantages

A vest gives you an extra layer of clothing and protection and will give you more range of movement through the shoulders and upper body than you have with a jacket

When the weather is a little chilly in the mornings and evenings it will also add a bit of warmth

Most vests suitable for a safari will have 8+ pockets with a couple of security pockets on the inside of the vest.
The pockets are for the things you want to keep handy- things like

  • chap-stick
  • wet wipes
  • extra memory cards or sticks for your camera(s) or video recorders.
  • Cash for tips for the driver, guide, cook.

When worn with a shirt, dress or blouse a vest can work to add shape to the upper body and can emphasize a collar, or a sweater or a blouse.

Colors that blend with the natural surroundings are best- Khaki is the obvious and traditional color.

Shades of brown, olive, can add some variety.

Vest can fasten with buttons, snaps, zippers or clasps. Pockets may button or have a flap and often small pockets are zippered.

Look for neutral colors, fit and clean lines.

(Not too many pockets as you will forget what you put where- at least that is what I've discovered with jackets with too many pockets.)
