Why Having a Map of Kenya is a Good Idea

You need a map of Kenya if you're visiting. It gives you some idea of where you are, where you're going, where you've been.

Maps do get a bit 'dated' as time goes by. (I know a guy who got lost in the woods because some loggers had built a new road. The new road wasn't on the map. So my acquaintance got a bit lost.)The map is Not the territory.

The map below is a simple map. It shows a few cities, the borders of the neighboring countries, the Indian Ocean on the East Coast.
Maps also give you a sense of direction and distance.

The map does not give a lot of detail. You can't tell that Mombasa is an island or that Nakuru is famous for flamingos.

Here is an ethnic map. It shows the various people and you may recognize some of the names of tribes.

If you're traveling to Kenya you most likely will want a travel guide or a variety of maps that show the location of national parks, landmarks, places of interest.

Google maps show a few of these details, however a better bet for the traveler is to buy a few travel guides. Lonely Planet, Rough Guide and Fodor's offer these types of guides. You can take a look at them at Amazon or other booksellers.
