Nairobi National Park, Wildlife Capital on the Southside of the City

Nairobi National Parkis close to the capital city of Nairobi.

Kenya started establishing National Parks and Game Reserves in 1946.
The Nairobi Park was established first,
and it is a popular park-about 10 km. or 6.2 miles south of Nairobi.

or you don't choose to go on safari for several days.

It's nice that there is a park operated by the Kenya Wildlife Service close by just a few minutes from the city.

There is an amazing variety of wild life to see- over 400 species of birds.

There are zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, lions, cheetahs, and leopards.

The park is refuge to a few of the endangered black rhinos and there are decks where you can look out over the hippo ponds.

there is also a Safari Walk that highlights the variety of plants and animals that are in Kenya, and how they affect Kenya's population.

the park is fenced on all sides except the south where the Mbagathi River serves as a natural boundary and opens up the area for migrating wildlife.

The terrain is mostly grassy plains. and the weather tends to be on the warm side.

There are several 5 entrances into the park.
You need ID( a valid passport or National ID. You can buy a safari card at the main entrance to the park.

There are several restaurants however you may want to take Drinking water and picnic items,

Also useful are: a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses,wet wipes, binoculars, camera and/or video recorder.

There are no accommodations in side the park itself.There are plenty of places to stay in and around Nairobi.
