Meru National Park was the home of Joy and George Adamson
Meru National Park-Here you will find the grave of Elsa the lioness. It was Joy and George Adamson that made Meru well know to the General Public. This is one of the areas where the George and Joy raised Elsa.
The movie "Born Free" was made about the life, trials, and tribulations of the Adamsons (Joy was a bit of a 'free spirit') and Elsa.
Meru is a National Park in Kenya
-famous for the book, the movie, and the story. The park is overseen by Kenya Wildlife Service and is located east of Meru, 350 km from Nairobi. The park straddles the equator and overs an area of 870 km². Terrain and Wildlife The park enjoys plenty of rainfall, 635–762 mm on the west of the park and 305–356 mm in the east. The rainfall the rivers that run through the park result in tall grass and lush swamps, which makes it difficult to spot game: however that makes it a good place to fish and to go rafting. Game to view includes lions, elephants, cheetah, leopard, black rhino, zebra, gazelle oryx and some of the rarer antelope- Lesser Kudu and duiker also the more common Dik Dik one of Africa's smallest antelope. Elsa the Lioness is buried in this park and part of Joy's ashes were scattered on her grave site. There is an airstrip (Mulika Lodge) that serves the park Activities and Tourist attractions Game Viewing, Hiking, Fishing, Rafting, the home of George and Joy Adamson, Adamson's Falls, views of Mount Kenya, and the Tana River.
