Malindi and Watamu, a Favorite Place for Ernest Hemingway

And Maybe You

Malindi is popular with tourists. Join the mix.

Watamu Bay Coral Reefs

It was once a resting place and a trading place for the Portuguese on the way to India.

Of course the neighboring Arabs visited as did the Chinese.

And there's a story going back to the 1400's of the local ruler sending a giraffe to the Chinese emperor.

The area was a favorite hangout place for Ernest Hemingway and
It's a favored departure point for deep sea fishing.

Like much of the Kenya coast you'll find the Swahili architecture and Culture along with the Arabic and Portuguese influence.

Watamu is a resort area just to the south .

The Blue Lagoon, Turtle Bay, Watamu Bay and the Coral Reefs give form to the area.

Watamu Beach You are well protected. Go snorkeling or swimming around the Coral Reefs.

Your own private salt water aquarium to explore.

Or you can escape this sanctuary and go fishing for the marlin or the tuna or swordfish in the Indian Ocean currents east of the coral reefs.

You can feel the tension on the line as it moves through the water. Anticipate the excitement of the catch.

Feast on the endless expanse of the horizon, the sound of the waves, the sun in the west and the trip back home.

Even if you don't bring back a fish,

you can bring back a story.... Make it a good one.
