Lake Naivasha, Lodging for Hell's Gate and Surrounding Areas

Lake Naivasha is so named for the 'rough water' on windy or stormy days

Moi South lake Rd. Moi North Lake Rd. circle the the lake on the east, south, and western sides of the lake.
Along the road you'll find lodging and at the lake, places to rest your eyes.

It's a freshwater lake surrounded by reeds, papyrus and a variety of wildlife.

Lake Naivasha Eagle Wildlife
There are forested areas next to the lake so there is an abundance of birds. It's a world class destination in Kenya for birdwatching.

The lake also draws giraffe which wander about, hippos, buffalo and zebra. You may see hippos and buffalo wading in the water. The depth of the lake varies according to rainfall. The average depth is 5 meters or about 16 ft.

You can take a walking safari at Cresent Island on the south east side of the lake.

Nearby National Parks Kenya
Hell’s Gate (where you can go walking or cycling) and Longonot National Park and it's crater rim are south of the Lake.

Since most of the hotels and lodging are around the lake or the town of Naivasha it may be worth spending a few days exploring.

Getting there
From Nairobi you can go by car, bus/matatu in an hour or two. There is also an airstrip in Naivasha town by charter flight. Many safari operators or hotels and lodges can arrange transportation.

If you're looking for birdwatching, perhaps a boat ride and spending a few leisurely days,
Naivasha and the surrounding parks may be just for you.
