Diani Beach - Sand, Sea, and Spas

Diani Beach

Diani beach has been the prime resort on the Kenya beaches for quite some time.

She's located south of Mombasa- one of the world's oldest cities so . . .

You'll find some old world charm as the beach stretches its sparkling white sands for some 27 km.(16 mi.)

But some of this old world charm can only be found when you leave the beach and go exploring.

  • Shimba Hills National Reserve is just inland from the beach.
  • You'll see and hear the influence of Arabian culture in the language and artifacts
  • Kongo mosque is an old (16th century) coral mosque
  • The coral reefs offer great opportunities for snorkeling and scuba diving
  • Since it is a popular beach it has become a bit over-developed--
There are 5 star hotels, private resorts, spas, shopping centers, villas, bars and restaurants.

If you've visited the beach there you can sign a petition to keep the area free of billboard style signs and clutter
Online letter addressing signs at Diani

People go to the beach for the sun, the surf, and the sand
(I understand that-I am somewhat of a lounge lizard myself).
plus the beach has developed a reputation for being a great spot for
wind surfing and even on the warmest days there is usually a cool breeze from the Indian Ocean

With resort spas, a post office, a small airstrip at at south end of the beach, golf plus a wide variety of
    fishing resorts, and coral reefs...

this beach can serve as a home base for anything from a safari, to a diving or fishing trip.

It is certainly worth a trip to the beach here and venturing away from the beach can only add to your enjoyment and curiosity of the culture and people of the beaches of Kenya
